Canterbury Earthquake (Rating Valuations Act: Christchurch City Council) Order 2011

Modifies or suspends the effect of certain provisions of the Rating Valuations Act 1998 in relation to the Christchurch City Council so that the council has a practical basis for setting and assessing rates, at least for the 2011/12 financial year and possibly for longer depending upon the speed of recovery work in greater Christchurch. Extends the interval within which the Christchurch City Council must revise its district valuation roll to 1 December 2013; and limits the circumstances in which the Christchurch City Council may alter its district valuation roll during the currency of the roll; and exempts the Christchurch City Council from undertaking new valuations of rating units for the purpose of the district valuation roll on the request of owners, or ratepayers for, rating units. The Review Panel made a recommendation to the Minister for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery and the Minister for Land Information on the draft Order on 15 June 2011. The Land Information New Zealand letter of 9 June 2011 contains information about the draft Order that the Review Panel considered in making its report and recommendation. Date in force/expires 20 June 2011/expires on the earlier of—(a) the implementation of the next general revaluation (1 December 2013); or(b) the close of 31 March 2014.
